Protecting Our Community’s Safety Net: The Impact of Amendment 3
Miami-Dade County’s Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) provide essential services to our most vulnerable residents, including food assistance, housing support, senior care, youth programs, and mental health services.
These organizations receive funding through the County’s General Fund, supported by property tax revenue. This funding also helps CBOs leverage more than $15.2 million in additional outside resources, expanding their ability to serve our community.
How Could Amendment 3 Affect Our Community?
Amendment 3 could significantly reduce property tax revenues available to Miami-Dade County and municipalities while introducing constitutional restrictions on how remaining property tax dollars may be spent. As a result, social service providers could face substantial funding reductions or the potential elimination of critical county and municipal funding streams.
The consequences could include:
- Reduced nonprofit funding and fewer available services.
- Loss of additional private and foundation investments.
- Limited access to food, housing, healthcare, and senior support.
- Increased hardship for low-income families and vulnerable residents.
Our Community Cannot Afford to Weaken Its Safety Net
The debate over property tax relief must also account for the essential services that protect our community’s health, safety and well-being. The potential impact on Holocaust Survivors, vulnerable seniors, abused children, families in crisis, and others who rely on our community’s safety net deserves careful consideration. We encourage all eligible Miami-Dade County voters to learn about the proposed amendment, understand its potential consequences for essential community services, and make their voices heard in November.
Why This Vote Matters !
When Community-Based Organizations lose funding, the residents who depend on their services feel the impact. Seniors, children, individuals with disabilities, and struggling families could lose access to resources essential to their health, safety, and well-being.
Protecting our community’s safety net means protecting the organizations and resources that help our neighbors survive and thrive.
Community Coalition Inc. believes our community deserves to understand how Amendment 3 could affect essential services and the future of Miami-Dade County’s most vulnerable residents.
Amendment 3 could put critical funding for Miami-Dade County’s Community-Based Organizations at risk, threatening the services that seniors, children, low-income families, and other vulnerable residents depend on every day.
Your vote is an opportunity to make an informed decision about the future of our community’s safety net. Understand what is at stake, consider the potential consequences, and make your voice heard on Election Day.
